Spend a Holiday on Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is a terrific, luxurious, and unique destination, and it's a great place to spend a holiday with your significant other or the whole family! While you can stay for just a few days, there is so much to do that it's ideal to spend a longer duration and rent a holiday home on Gran Canaria to be able to see more of what the island has to offer. 

Nature: Gran Canaria is known for its beautiful locale. It has stunning beaches and ocean views, so be sure to plan a few days oceanside. Maspalomas is a terrific beach located in the heart of the island. It is one of the most popular beaches in all of Europe, so it draws lots of tourists each year. Playa del Ingles is another great option, especially for families.

Deemed a "fun beach" by the locals, Playa del Ingles has a terrific boardwalk for the whole family to enjoy in between dips in the ocean. But Gran Canaria's appeal extends far beyond its beach. Some call it a "miniature continent" because of its variety of terrain. Families or couples can enjoy a visit to the island's national parks or stop by the Canary Botanical Garden to take a peek at the exotic flowers and plants indigenous to the area. 

Sights/sightseeing: No visit to Gran Canaria is complete without a stop to see the rock formation at Roque Nublo. Roque Nublo provides a breathtaking view of the mountains, oceans, pine trees, all on top of what appears to be a lunar landscape. It is truly a one-of-a-kind place. The dunes of Maspalomas are also world-renowned. The rolling dunes and the nearby historical lighthouse will give visitors a glimpse into the history of the island. 

Attractions: If you and your family are culture buffs, don't miss the Museum and Archaeological Reserve of Cueva Pintada. This archaeological reserve was 24 years in the making. The building itself sits next to the grounds of the original aborigine settlement on the island. Kids may also enjoy the chance to learn about the local dolphins. Dolphin educators can be found all around the island, and some can even help kids get close enough to touch a dolphin. 

Active holiday: There are a plethora of physical outdoor activities on Gran Canaria. The local mountains are tailor-made for hiking. Consult a local expert to determine which mountains are best for avid hikers and which are best for families with small children. If you are athletic and adventurous, there are also great opportunities for mountain climbing as well. Families and couples can also rent bikes and bike up and down the coastline along the boardwalks. 

Atmosphere: Gran Canaria provides a picturesque and laid-back atmosphere, making it perfect for a couple’s getaway or a family adventure. The whole family can play together on the beach and explore the local markets and towns. Gran Canaria certainly gets tourists, but it is not too overcrowded. 

Gran Canaria is a terrific place to spend an extended holiday. Consider renting a holiday home. It gives you a better flavor for the area and helps you live like a local.
