THE AREA:
In sunny weather, you will likely want to go to the beach, which is only a few minutes walk away. In an easterly wind, you can hear the sea's roar. The beach here is very child-friendly. There are many types of seashells you can find, and perhaps you are lucky enough to find a small piece of amber after a stormy day.
To the town of Sæby, it is only 1500 m. You can choose to walk along the beach promenade, which leads directly to the marina, or through the holiday home area. The harbor has many pleasure boats in the summer, and you can buy ice cream and fresh fish there, and the maritime atmosphere with sailboats, cafes, and shops is lively.
Sæby is worth several visits. It is a very charming market town with good shopping opportunities and attractions. The town center is the square. Many events take place here throughout the year. In the summer, there is musical entertainment a couple of times a week. In the pedestrian streets, there is a wide selection of small shops offering everything between heaven and earth.
Sæby is a market town that turns 500 years old in 2024. In the old town lies the monastery church St. Mariæ. In that area also lies Sæby Miniby, with houses from 1900, the Coastal Museum, Sæby watermill, and several different exciting artisans in the old town around Algade. On the outskirts of the town, there is an attractive 18-hole golf course and Sæbygaard Castle, which is also worth a visit.
An hour's drive from Sæby lies Skagen, where you can experience the Skagen painters' environment up close, Grenen, and see the two seas meet. On the west coast of North Jutland, the North Sea Oceanarium, Northern Europe's largest aquarium, can be a good excursion destination for the family with children. To the south is Aalborg (Denmark's 3rd largest city), if the possibilities of city life appeal to you.
If you want to see "The Bloodstain that cannot be removed," you should visit Voergaard Castle, which is set up as a museum and houses Denmark's largest privately-owned art collection. In July, Medieval Days are held at the castle. Definitely worth a visit - also for children.
