Description

LOCATION – CASA DA FONTE is located in the village of Algarvia, in the heart of the Northeast district, São Miguel, Azores. The Northeast is the kingdom of Pico de Vara, the highest point of the island of São Miguel and one of its oldest sites, as well as one of the best preserved and rich landscapes. According to the local chronicles, this house was built as a family accommodation at a time of great development in the region due to the orange plantations. Later, at the end of the nineteenth century, this stone house was adapted as a primary school, the first in the village of the Algarve, until 1930. From then on it was used as one of the command posts of the Portuguese Legion during World War II. In 2008 it was restored and adapted as a rural tourism accommodation, respecting the architectural principles and equipped with the necessary furniture for the comfort and convenience of its guests. DESCRIPTION – The house CASA DA FONTE is surrounded by the blue of the sea on the horizon and the deep green of the surrounding mountains. The stone house has a large garden area with some native plants, fruit trees and flowers such as azaleas, hydrangeas and camellias. This house has a traditional design, with the particularity of presenting a linear structure, with the kitchen at one end and followed by successive dependencies, something unique in the east of the island of São Miguel. Inside, there is a mixture of elements of the past and the present: restored antique furniture that coexists harmoniously with contemporary pieces and modern equipment. The accommodation is adapted and equipped for guests with reduced mobility. It has a double bedroom, a living room with a traditional wood-burning stove, a fully equipped modern kitchen that includes a traditional wood-burning oven, and a bathroom. Outside the house there is a parking area, a croquet court and a covered area with barbecue. For the entertainment of its guests, CASA DA FONTE offers, at no additional cost, cable TV, DVD player, HI-FI sound system, a small library, indoor games, two bicycles and a croquette court. Upon arrival, guests will find homemade bread and jams, milk, coffee, tea, fruit, water, butter and cheese. In each house there are also some basic grocery items. The standard capacity of the stone house is 2 people in a double room. However, until 2 more extra beds can be added upon request. The price includes: change of towels, bed linen and cleaning of the house every 3 days; firewood for the barbecue and stove heater, as well as free use of all equipment provided. RNT 7363
