Description
STALLA D´IMMEZ – Stylish historical apartment in Santa Maria Val Müstair
For over four hundred years the Stalla d´Immez served as a stable for horses and other animals. Its annex, originally placed on top of the hen house, was used as a chamber for the farm labourers. Centrepieces of the space are the delicate attic and the impressive path for the hay wagon cutting the room in half. In 2021 Micha Friemel and Tim Krohn, writers and couple living in Santa Maria, worked together with the local cultural heritage agency to ensure both the preservation of the space and a modern living environment. In addition guests can find a small garden patch with herbs, flowers and berries next to the apartment, as well as a parking space in the courtyard.
SANTA MARIA
The small mountain village, located 1,375 metres above sea level, has an historical centre of unspoiled beauty. It is home to a number of creatives such as writers, artists, journalists of national and international reputation. In addition one can find the renowned hand weaving mill Tessanda, a museum about the exciting story of the valley during World War I, a Whiskey distillery, an antique carpenter´s workshop, two riding stables, various offers for you mental and physical health, such as Aryuvedic treatments, Shiatsu, Yoga, Zen archery, ‘Vita´ exercise courses and several walks. It houses both the smallest hospital in Switzerland as well as the smallest bar in the world.
During summer the artists´ association Art Val Müstair organises a well known exhibition of modern art free of charge. In Santa Maria you can also find the Chasa Parli, a retreat for writers and those seeking peace and quiet, also providing writer´s workshops upon request. At the very edge of the village lies a large adventure playground with an outdoor BBQ area. Like most mountain villages Santa Maria has been built along the thoroughfare (speed limit 30 km/h). The Stalla d´Immez, however, is located at a distance from the main road with a view of the mountains Piz Lad and Piz Terza.
VAL MÜSTAIR
They valley is an ecological jewel, a biosphere reserve located at the edge of the Swiss National Park in the most Eastern part of the country, on the Southern side of the alps. There are a number of leisure facilities available, most notably hiking, snowshoeing, cycling and skiing (alpine as well as Nordic). The agriculture in the area is mostly ecological. In addition the valley is shaped by the presence of the cloister San Jon in Müstair, which was founded in 800ad by Charles the Great.
The Stalla d´Immez consists of one undivided room of 120 m2. The loft offers an open view of the mountains of the valley. The only room that has been separated from the main area is the bathroom. An unheated extension serves as a winter garden and has a wood burner. The furniture has been chosen according to the taste of the hosts and is of highest quality. It has been partly adapted to the time period in which the stable has been built (17th/18th century) and partly follows design trends between Bauhaus and the turn of the turn of the last century. The stable houses a small hand picked selection of books, an antique collection of games as well as vinyl records chosen according to the personal taste of the hosts.
Both sleeping areas are placed vertically, one can be found at ground level, the other on top of the gallery. Both are equipped with double beds.
The modern kitchen invites you to experiment with different kinds of recipes, the bathroom offers a bathtub with space for two and is therefore ideal for a bath with candle light.
The rental fee includes bedding, towels and tea towels and, WIFI. You can also find kitchen essentials such as oil, vinegar, tea, coffee, spices and wood for the fireplace for the duration of your whole stay. Last but not least: the tap water in Santa Maria is of the finest quality.
Please refrain from smoking in the apartment and the winter garden.
Conditions and extras
The apartment offers space for 1- 4 people. A crib can be rented for an additional fee of 100,- per stay.
