Description
Description
Set in the stunning coastal village of Craster, Northumberland is this beautifully welcoming family home that is Harbour House. Overlooking the harbour, this traditional cottage sets the scene for your time here, suiting a family holiday or a friends retreat. There is a fully ‘decked’ enclosed garden to the front (across the lane) for enjoying the sun or maybe bird watching or reading. The much-acclaimed ‘Top 10 best walks’ Northumberland Coast path runs directly between the house and the harbour. To the north is the grassy path along the rocky shoreline to Dunstanburgh Castle and beyond, while to the south, through the village, the path leads to Cullernose Point and on to Howick Bay, passing the barley sugar twisted chimneys of the Bathing House.
Parking for 2 cars at Harbour House is in the gap beyond the house. You are encouraged to use the back door coming from your car to reach the keysafe. The porch has an ottoman and worktop, plus hanging space, to begin unpacking on arrival.
Beyond the porch, off which is the boiler room, you turn left into the hallway with a bathroom and stairs to the first floor. Continue into the Kitchen, (mind the step) which opens into the Dining Room with views out to sea. The table here seats 10, with plenty of room for the 7 guests in the house. A high chair is available should you need it. The dining table is also much enjoyed by guests for card and board games and jigsaws. The large Living Room, with an open fire, leads off the Dining Room. There is comfy seating for 8 and a smart TV.
Upstairs there are three good sized bedrooms and a smaller single room. One is super king and another a king room, both looking east over the harbour. A twin room and the single room, along with two bathrooms round off upstairs in this homeliest of holiday lets.
The front decked garden space makes a stunning al fresco area, particularly in the gorgeous summer months when the sun is high and the garden is vibrantly luscious. The back patio area, which catches the evening sun, has the BBQ.
Craster has plenty of things to do and see, so make sure to take in the sights with stunning views of the bay. The Jolly Fisherman Inn, Shoreline cafe and Pipers Pitch offer a varied menu, and Embleton is 8 minutes drive north where you can stock up at the local store, while Alnwick, 6 miles away, has a number of supermarkets. Dunstanburgh Castle sits nearby, but whether it be history or a spot of golf at Castle's Golf Course, there’s always something to find at in the ‘Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. Just south you'll find Howick Hall, built in 1782 and famously connected to the Grey family, and any tea enthusiast will have heard of Earl Grey; Open during the spring and summer, a must-see for any nature enthusiast too with its delightful gardens and stunning rhododendrons and azaleas on the walk down to the sea.
