The Medieval Center
Visit the Medieval Center and travel back in time
Located just outside Nykøbing Falster, the Medieval Center transports you to 15th-century medieval life with magnificent knight tournaments, cannons, and the world’s largest trebuchet.
In the fictional medieval market town of Sundkøbing, you'll encounter people from all walks of life in period costumes, including merchants, craftsmen, soldiers, market women and children. The knights don't reside in the town, they ride in wearing fine armor for tournaments.
You can also visit the craftsmen in their workshops, where you can watch them practice ancient crafts. The town boasts a blacksmith, carpenter, shoemaker, weaver, painter, tailor, rope maker, and many more, offering an exciting glimpse into their work.
In the town square, merchants have stalls where you can purchase interesting items to take home. Take a stroll around the town to see how people lived in the Middle Ages. If you're curious and want to know more about life back then, feel free to ask the townspeople, who will be happy to answer your questions. You can easily recognize them by their costumes.
Magnificent knight tournaments
Sir Henrik Svane is a noble knight and lord of Sundkøbing, and every day in the high season he invites other knights to compete and show their skills on Sundkøbing's tournament field. Experience the horses and the brave knights, the elegant ladies, the loyal squires, and the thrilling jousting. The knight tournaments served as war training but also provided entertainment for the townspeople. So, pick a knight and cheer him on - and don't forget to boo his opponent.
Medieval cannons and firearms
At the Medieval Center, you can explore a wide array of medieval firearms, including cannons, bombards, and shotguns. The large bombard, the new Anholt cannon, the swinging bass, and the small shotguns are fired every Saturday at 15:00 and on Wednesdays during the high season. These demonstrations take place near the trebuchet. Witness the impressive sight of heavy stones being thrown into Guldborgsund.
Technology Park: The cradle of technology
Explore the fascinating inventions of the Middle Ages at the Technology Park. Here, you can see and try out various exciting creations, including early versions of the car, the elevator, the airplane, and even a perpetual motion machine. The Technology Park is divided into themed areas: water, war technology, lifting and hoisting techniques, and “evolutionary tryouts”. You'll be amazed at how many modern innovations have their origins in the Middle Ages.
Take a walk in the Magical Forest - if you dare!
In the Magical Forest, you'll encounter a host of medieval supernatural creatures. Sensible footwear is required. The forest is not suitable for wheelchairs or those with walking difficulties. Throughout the Magical Forest, you'll find explanatory signs and small exhibitions, adding to the enchanting experience.
