Bruges is one of Belgium's most popular cities, thanks to its amazing charm and its medieval feel that has been well preserved. Visit the main square the check out the architecture. The Belfry is a great chance to catch a view of this beautiful city. For another angle, take a half hour boat tour of the canals. Belgium is known the world over for its chocolate, so be sure to check out one of the local shops, perfect after a long day of walking around.
Located a little under 45 minutes from Brussels by train, Ghent is a perfect place to spend a day. Visit the Gravensteen, or the Castle of the Counts. This medieval fortress has a rich history, and now houses an amazing collection of arms and armor. Walking around Ghent, you'll find an incredible array of Gothic architecture, such as St. Bavo's Cathedral. Take in the view from the city from the Belfry, which thankfully has a lift if the steep steps are intimidating.
Antwerp is a popular town to visit in Belgium and is an especially great choice if you're traveling with children. Located in the heart of the city is Antwerp Zoo, which is one of Europe's oldest. This is a large park where you can easily spend half a day if you'd like. Another great place to stop is the recently opened Comic Station.
Belgium is famous for its comic books, including Tintin and the Smurfs. In addition to learning about Belgium's other comic book characters, kids can also enjoy interactive installations.
