Holiday Adventure in Carinthia

Austria is well-known for the beauty of its majestic mountains and lush valleys carved by ancient glaciers.

The southern-most state of Carinthia lies within the Eastern Alps region of the country and is called Austria's Riviera. Known for its spectacular mountains and numerous lakes, it's the ideal destination for active nature loving families.

Renting a holiday home in Carinthia leads to fun and adventure. Regardless of the season, there is much to see and do.

The humid continental climate makes for hot, moderately wet summers - perfect for enjoying a swim in one of the many lakes. The most popular lakes for swimming include Worthersee, Millstatter See, Ossiacher See, and Faaker See. Ski resorts are available in the long harsh winters. These include Nassfeld and Heiligenblut, located on Grossglockner, Carinthia's highest mountain.

Traveling through Carinthia is like going back in time; medieval towns, castles, churches, monasteries, and palaces are common sights that greet visitors. Gorgeous waterfalls are a treat for the eyes and you can get to the Pasterze Glacier by the funicular railway.

For alpine sports and mountaineering activity, spend some time at the Nock Mountains National Parks. Hike along well-marked trails or take one of the many themed guided hikes for even more fun. A hike up to the UNESCO biosphere park in the Nockberge will give you a 360 degree view of some of the oldest alpine formations in Europe.

What could be better after a long day of hiking or skiing than a dip in a pool or hot tub or to relax in a soothing sauna? The Drautal Perle Aquapark has all sorts of fun water activity for the whole family to enjoy.

A great activity park for all ages is the Freizeitanlagen Walderlebniswelt and the youngsters will love Eselpark Maltatal where they can see animals from camels to guinea pigs up close. It's a small park with a personal feel. For even more varieties of animal, there are a couple of zoos located in Carinthia.

Throw in a little culture while on holiday by visiting a few of the specialty museums that include archaeological sites, art, history, and a transportation museum that houses a fine collection of Porsches. Don't miss the Schloss Rosegg - full-size wax figures in room settings, a wildlife park, and a maze all combine to make for a fun, interesting visit.

Summer time is fun time in Carinthia. Many of the towns and villages hold week-long festivals with performances by players from nearby Italy and Slovenia. Nothing better than a festival to cap off an amazing holiday in Carinthia!
