If you're interested in seeing some amazing natural wonders, Timanfaya National Park is a must-visit. Located in the southwestern area of the island, this massive park is over 50 square kilometers of breathtaking volcanic landscape. Between 1730 and 1736, constant volcanic eruptions fundamentally altered the landscape of the area, and it is mostly unchanged to this day.

At Islote de Hilario, visitors can experience the Montañas del Fuego, or Fire Mountains, where you can visit geothermal pits where recorded temperatures inside have exceeded 600 degrees. 

If you'd like to relax at the beach, Lanzarote offers a number of great choices. With white sand and beautiful turquoise water, it's easy to see why this is such a popular tourist destination. While Lanzarote can fill up with tourists, there are many beaches that are off the beaten path if you want to avoid the crowds. If you want to go diving, Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen is a perfect choice considering it is a sheltered beach with still waters. Playa Famara is perfect for surfing or for simply strolling and enjoying the incredible view. 

If you're into diving, you simply can't miss Lanzarote's Museo Atlántico, an underwater museum with amazing sculptures in a truly unique setting. Lanzarote offers many opportunities for divers, and you shouldn't miss the chance to get close to some of the island's incredible marine life. If you're thinking about trying scuba diving for the first time, there are introductory programs that are perfect for the whole family. 

Lanzarote's otherworldly volcanic landscape lends itself to outdoor adventures. Be sure to visit Montana Corona, an extinct volcano which offers an incredible view if you reach the top. Los Hervideros is another great destination. This series of strangely shaped cliffs is home to a large number of underwater caverns, which are the result of the lava solidifying and then eroding over time. This is a great opportunity for exploration and taking in sights that simply can't be seen anywhere else. 

Not all the fun in Lanzarote must come from natural geologic formations. If you are looking for a fun change of pace, visit Aqualava Waterpark Lanzarote for some heart pounding rides. If you're interested in architecture and looking for something indoors, check out the Lagomar Museum. This is a home, museum and garden that is open to the public. This stunning structure was designed by the artist Jesús Soto, and was the home of actor Omar Sharif.
