An Amazing Journey through North Holland

The North Holland region of the Netherlands is bordered by the North and Wadden Seas, the Ijsselmeer and the Markermeer. The area is the most popular destination in the country and attracts millions of guests annually.

The landscape here is quite diverse and ranges from the beautiful coastal beaches to the inland hills. Along with vast metropolitan areas, there are a number of traditional Dutch villages to explore. Historic sites, museums and modern amenities are all found in North Holland.

Tulips are also associated with Holland and a trip to the region is not complete without visiting the Keukenhof Gardens. Millions of bulbs are strategically planted each year to produce the familiar blooms each spring that vary in a wide selection of colors. The gardens round out the beautiful display with selections of daffodils, hyacinths and other colorful blossoms. 

Embark on a tour of the region by water. Take a journey by boat through some of the 60 miles of canals that meander throughout the area. Make a stop in the city that was the birthplace of Rembrandt. Browse through the quaint shops and admire the traditional Dutch architecture. 

In anticipation of Spanish invasions and other intruders, regions fortified their villages with walls and fortresses. The Muiderslot castle was one of these fortresses and remains one of the country's most well-maintained historic sites that welcomes guests. Touring the facility, which is now a museum, provides visitors with a glimpse of noble life during the medieval period. The castle features original artworks, furnishings and typical household items used hundreds of years ago.
